My wandering thoughts.......

Sitting in a coffee shop with one of my best friends the other day, our discussion which largely revolved around careers, our future, college, fashion and what not arrived at a seemingly interesting topics 'Holy Matrimony'.....for the lesser mortals like me that would mean 'marriages'.Okay, it may not sound so very interesting but anyways.......We started off by discussing the rituals leading to the main wedding ceremony in our respective castes (me being a baniya babe and she a punjabi pataka ;-)[term courtesy : Abhishek Kashyap] ).To our utter dismay , we discovered that all north Indian weddings are largely similar with a few additions and subtractions thrown in here and there. As our discussion proceeded we talked about the elaborate wedding ceremonies (read : Big Fat Indian weddings) of our near and dear ones and our favourite part about the entire thing...........Obviously we couldn't leave out the amazing myths associated with some of our rituals........And of course all the matter and material that is a part and parcel of the Indian weddings......Well, sadly our discussion came to an abrupt end brought about by the arrival of another friend of ours and we proceeded to talk about more thought-provoking stuff(read : utter nonsense).

Two days later as I sat studying an array of completely different subjects (much like the amalgam of various spices in our cuisine),ranging from physics and chemistry to accounts and law, my mind wandered(as usual), and came to halt at my discussion with my pals--"What was the purpose of our talk?","Was it greater force that led us to talk about all that?","Was the universe conspiring against us?"..........ah well not exactly that sort of crap......just some other kind.

What I sat thinking was that is it just us 'the fairer sex' who start pondering over their 'honewale Pati Parmeshwar' and 'hone wala khaandan' the very moment we hit puberty.......???(Well, some feminists will be up in arms against my sweeping generalisation [term courtesy : Edward De Bono] but paying no heed to them....or to anyone else for that matter, I shall forge ahead bravely) or is it the same with the 'darker sex'( i quite doubt that possibility)......or is it that we as women (I'll call myself that as I'm an adult now...thank you very much) are more aware of that reality having been born in a patriarchial society......As that thought started on its way toward the 'exit' door of my mind another one came through the entrance just as swiftly 'Do our male counterparts down south go through the same emotions?' As my new thought did not give me any more fodder I went back to the old one so........is it because of being brought up in a joint family and having got the opportunity to bear witness (socially, not legally) to an average of one family wedding every two years( no complaints there) and god knows how many in my lifetime.......

Well whatever the reason I doubt that I shall ever find out unless I set out on a quest to do a whole Census of India huge survey(that reminds me the Census is coming up next year)..............I might even do that in future but considering the number of subjects that I have to study right now (8 to be precise), I'll pass it and leave behind my 'Chemistry' of human minds and the 'Law' of attraction and instead concentrate on my text books......and MAYBE go back to doing that in future..........
